The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday morning announced the seizure of online domains used by a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group that compromised networks at the Federal Reserve, the Department of Justice itself, NASA, and other federal agencies.
The domains were tied to hacking platforms known as “QScan and QTRouter,” which the DOJ said in a statement were “used to target U.S. critical infrastructure and other sensitive networks.”
Broader targeting
According to a court filing, the targets extended well beyond federal agencies. The networks operated by hospitals, telecommunications providers, power companies, financial institutions, and defense contractors were also among those hit.
The announcement marks a significant escalation in the U.S. government’s efforts to disrupt Chinese state-sponsored cyber activity, which has increasingly focused on critical infrastructure and sensitive sectors.
The DOJ did not immediately provide details on the extent of data compromised or the timeline of the intrusions. The investigation is ongoing, and officials said further updates would be released as more information becomes available.
