A federal judge on Friday rejected President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to move his New York hush money case from state court to federal court, marking the second time the request has been denied.
Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan ruled against Trump’s bid to transfer the criminal case, which ended in his conviction in May 2024 on charges of falsifying business records in Manhattan state Supreme Court.
The charges stem from a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election, over her claims of a sexual encounter with Trump. Trump has denied the allegations.
Hellerstein had previously denied a similar request from Trump, and Friday’s ruling reaffirms that the case will remain in state court. The decision is a setback for Trump, who had sought to have the case heard in federal court, a venue that could have offered a different legal posture.
