In a new column published Wednesday, PJ Media senior columnist Stephen Kruiser argues that the political left has so thoroughly overused accusations of racism that the charge has become little more than “background noise” for most Americans.
Kruiser opens with a familiar conservative maxim: “When a liberal calls you a racist, that means you’re winning the argument.” He contends that leftists shout “Racism!” reflexively rather than thoughtfully, and that their responses to conservatives are built on “fictional evil caricatures.”
Obama and the ‘Victimhood Machine’
Kruiser points to former President Barack Obama as the figure most responsible for fueling what he calls the Democratic Party’s “victimhood machine.” He notes that Obama’s two-term presidency should have demonstrated racial progress, but that both Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have continued to frame their experiences in terms of oppression.
“Nine and a half years after Obama said goodbye to his presidency and went off to make a fortune from Netflix, his wife is still doing interviews and acting as if she were forced to ride in the back of the struggle bus the whole time she was the First Lady,” Kruiser writes.

WNBA’s Carrington Cited as Recent Example
The column also revisits a recent sports controversy: WNBA player DiJonai Carrington, who posted a “White Privilege” comment on social media shortly after being ejected from a game. Kruiser notes that Carrington, 28, earns a base salary of $650,000 per year to play basketball, and dismisses her complaint as “performative victimhood.”
Kruiser says the “Boy Who Cried Wolf” pattern of racial accusations means genuine incidents of racism may not receive proper attention, since people tune out after a few highly publicized “hate crime hoaxes” each year.
White Liberals and ‘White Privilege’
The author also takes aim at the concept of “white privilege,” saying he has “no idea what it means” after a lifetime of being white. He suggests the term is a leftist invention, and he criticizes white liberals who “insist that they’re down with the struggle,” citing California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s attempt to bond with a black audience by discussing his poor academic record.
Kruiser concludes that as long as Democrats claim the America of 2026 resembles the America of 1956 on racial matters, “no meaningful dialogue can be had about the subject” — and that this does “more to perpetuate the problem than anything else.”
The column is the latest in a series of PJ Media pieces pushing back on progressive racial messaging, a recurring theme for the conservative outlet.
