Clancy is accused of strangling her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was under a year old — before attempting suicide by jumping from a window. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, returned home from running errands to find the children’s bodies in the basement and his wife injured outside. He was heard screaming to responding officers, “Oh my God, oh my God, she killed the kids!”
According to reporting from PJ Media, the case has drawn an unusual amount of public sympathy for the defendant, with thousands of women demonstrating support for Clancy in person and on social media. The outlet’s Catherine Salgado wrote that the jury’s inability to reach a unanimous decision is “profoundly disturbing” and indicative of a broader erosion of moral clarity.
Prosecution Argues Premeditation
During the trial, a forensic psychologist testified that Clancy knew killing her children was illegal and carried out the acts anyway, according to PJ Media. The psychologist said he believes Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths.

Prosecutors also highlighted the brutal nature of the killings. Strangling a toddler with exercise bands takes between six and eight minutes, and evidence suggests the two older children were chased down before being killed, as they witnessed what was happening and were terrified.

The case has become a flashpoint in broader debates over mental illness, criminal responsibility, and punishment. Salgado argued that an “abortion death cult” has brainwashed Americans into supporting the defendant and that leftists focus on the perpetrators rather than victims.
She also raised concerns about public safety, noting that Patrick Clancy is still alive and that Lindsay Clancy could pose a danger to him or others if ever released. Regardless of whether she is considered calculatingly evil or insane, Salgado wrote, the outcome of her actions is the same.
“America has spent too many years falling for the lies that every mental illness is treatable, that every grave sin is just some sort of correctable mental imbalance,” she wrote.
The columnist argued that justice in this case demands at minimum a life sentence, and cited biblical passages to support the death penalty for murder. She asked how the country has reached a point where a jury is endlessly deadlocked in the case of a mother who deliberately killed her three young children.
