Newly declassified documents show that the FBI and other intelligence community members actively worked to blunt the impact of Biden family corruption allegations ahead of the 2020 presidential election, according to a report from PJ Media.
The documents, declassified by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, were highlighted by investigative reporter Catherine Herridge. They reveal a special team, dubbed “Round River,” that focused on delegitimizing the Hunter and Joe Biden Ukraine scandals. The intelligence community also terminated certain confidential sources who had reported or confirmed negative information on the Bidens, even if those sources had worked with the feds for years.
Foreign Influence Task Force and the ‘Round River’ Operation
The FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) brought together analysts whose job was to gather “any/all derogatory information” about the Biden family’s alleged foreign influence and bribery in Ukraine, according to the documents. One document shows a source, identified only as “CHS,” who spoke with Hunter Biden about his connections to Burisma and the Ukrainian government. That source was later terminated by federal officials, who reportedly did not want to know the truth.
Another document describes how the Round River team operated leading up to and through the 2020 election. Analyst had administrative access to all reporting and drafted intelligence products that were later added to each CHS file to show the reporting was deemed Russian disinformation. The FITF-R team also provided defensive briefings to any congressional member who obtained reporting related to the “Ukraine narrative.”
Allegations of Cover-Up
The PJ Media report argues that the Ukraine scandals and Hunter Biden’s laptop were not “Russian disinformation.” It cites a survey by the Media Research Center after the 2020 election indicating that, had more Biden voters known about the scandals, Joe Biden would have lost. The report suggests the intelligence community knew it had to keep the stories under wraps.
The documents also show that the FBI had at least 14 confidential human sources reporting derogatory information on Joe Biden. FBI analysts during Round River went into some of their files and marked their intelligence as Russian disinformation to discredit it.
The report further notes that, going back to the Obama administration, intelligence officials manipulated information for the fake Trump “Russia collusion” narrative. The FBI was aware the accusations were unfounded but refused to acknowledge it publicly.
Implications for Intelligence Community
The PJ Media article asserts that the new revelations demonstrate that the federal intelligence community deliberately worked to help Joe Biden win the 2020 election and oust Republicans from power, even while Donald Trump was in the White House. It noted that before Trump took office, the intel community was already undermining him.
The author, Catherine Salgado, argues that the overwhelming majority of FBI, CIA, and other agency staff remain the same people who were there two, four, and six years ago. Only a minuscule number have been fired, raising questions about whether another “coup” could occur. She concludes that the main takeaway is that many “Deep State” actors were part of a concerted conspiracy to help Democrats and undermine their Republican bosses, and that these unelected bureaucrats are not accountable to voters, which is why the Founders were wary of a large federal bureaucracy.
