Boston Scientific said Wednesday it was hit by a cyberattack this week that is affecting its operations, sending shares of the $72 billion medical device maker lower.
The attack is disrupting the company’s access to its information systems and applications, including the services used for shipments, Boston Scientific said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“While the company is working diligently to restore affected functions and systems access, the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known,” the filing said.
Shares under pressure
Shares were down 5% in premarket trading on Wednesday following the disclosure. The stock of the company, known for devices such as pacemakers and stents, has already been nearly cut in half this year, pressured by a weak profit forecast the company issued in the first quarter.
The cyberattack adds another layer of uncertainty for investors as the company works to contain the operational impact and restore full functionality to its systems.
