Tucker Carlson has sparked widespread condemnation from conservative commentators after calling for treason trials against President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers who support enhanced military cooperation between the United States and Israel.
During an appearance on the “East Meets West with Olga and Tara” podcast this week, Carlson denounced a provision in the fiscal year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act that would expand defense-technology cooperation between the two nations. The former Fox News host characterized the measure as lawmakers acting against American interests and effectively merging the countries’ militaries.
“The Republican Party has decided that the interest of Israel is more important than the interest of the United States,” Carlson said on the podcast. He exempted only Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie from his criticism, claiming “they were driven out of the Republican Party.”
Escalating Rhetoric and Accusations
Carlson’s criticism extended beyond policy disagreement into allegations of intelligence manipulation. He accused Israel’s Mossad of providing fabricated intelligence to American policymakers for decades, specifically claiming that “Mossad has fed, repeatedly, disinformation lies to American policymakers over decades, including the lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. That fundamentally came from Israel. There’s no dispute about that.”
The claim contradicts the historical record. Intelligence agencies from Britain, France, Germany, and Spain all independently concluded that Iraq likely possessed chemical and biological weapons prior to the 2003 invasion.
Carlson characterized the defense-technology partnership as “the definition of treason” and a “generational disaster,” framing it as evidence that Americans no longer control their own country.
Call for Nuremberg-Style Trials
In perhaps his most incendiary statement, Carlson explicitly called for war-crimes-style tribunals against current officials. “The idea that the Republican Party would support merging U.S. and Israeli intelligence, IDF and Pentagon is so deranged that you have to root for treason trials, for Nuremberg trials at some point,” he said. “And the president could veto it; he won’t because he’s a slave to Israel.”
The Nuremberg reference invokes the post-World War II tribunals that prosecuted Nazi war criminals, an extraordinary comparison for a defense cooperation bill between allied nations.
Carlson concluded his remarks by accusing defenders of Israel of supporting genocide. “We’re against genocide, we’re against book burning, that’s what we learned from the Nazi period,” he said. “And all of a sudden you wake up and we’re like, ‘No, no, genocide’s totally fine, as long as Israel’s doing it.’ In fact, if you call it genocide, you’re the bad person.”
Conservative Backlash
The comments have drawn sharp criticism from conservative media figures and outlets. Writing for PJ Media, columnist Matt Margolis described Carlson’s remarks as “full-on loony talk” and said the former host has become “indistinguishable from far-left crazies.”
“Calling for treason trials against a sitting president over a defense bill is the sign of an absolute meltdown,” Margolis wrote.
The controversy marks a continued evolution in Carlson’s public positioning since his departure from Fox News. His recent rhetoric has increasingly broken with traditional conservative foreign policy positions, particularly regarding U.S. alliances and support for Israel.
The 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes provisions for enhanced U.S.-Israel defense cooperation, represents standard legislative practice for authorizing defense spending and military programs. Similar defense-technology partnerships exist between the United States and numerous allied nations.
