Galderma Reports Strong Growth as Weight-Loss Drug Use Drives Demand for Facial Fillers

The Swiss aesthetics company said its U.S. business grew 32% as patients using GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy seek treatments for facial volume loss associated with rapid weight reduction.

Galderma Reports Strong Growth as Weight-Loss Drug Use Drives Demand for Facial Fillers

Galderma, the maker of botulinum toxin products and facial fillers, is seeing a significant boost from an unexpected source: the surging popularity of weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy.

CEO Flemming Ørnskov told CNBC on Thursday that the company was the first to demonstrate that combining two of its products—facial fillers and Sculptra, a collagen stimulator—can address the facial sagging that sometimes accompanies substantial weight loss. This condition, colloquially referred to as “Ozempic face,” has emerged as a concern for patients experiencing rapid weight reduction on GLP-1 medications.

“The increasing rate of patients using the so-called GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, its weight-loss equivalent Wegovy, or Zepbound, especially in the U.S., is now feeding into the very strong growth that we’re seeing in our aesthetics portfolio,” Ørnskov said.

U.S. Market Leads Growth

Galderma reported sales growth of nearly 25% at constant currencies year-over-year, with particularly strong performance in the United States. The company’s U.S. business grew 32%, significantly outpacing the 19% growth seen in the rest of the world.

The geographic disparity reflects the adoption patterns of GLP-1 drugs, which have been most rapidly embraced in the United States. According to current data, approximately one in 10 U.S. adults now report taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss, creating a rapidly expanding patient population.

Early Opportunity

Despite the strong growth figures, Ørnskov characterized the opportunity as still in its early stages. “It’s a significant opportunity for us, but it’s still early days,” he told CNBC’s “Europe Early Edition.”

The convergence of weight-loss medication use and aesthetic treatments represents a notable shift in the cosmetic dermatology market. As GLP-1 drugs become more widely prescribed and used, the secondary effects of rapid weight loss—including facial volume loss—are creating new demand for treatments that Galderma is positioning itself to address.

Shares of the Swiss-listed company showed little movement in mid-morning trading following the earnings announcement.

The company’s product portfolio includes various brands of botulinum toxin, facial fillers, and collagen stimulators, all of which can be used to restore facial volume and address the aesthetic concerns that may arise from significant weight loss.
