Speaking with host Larry Kudlow, Kennedy expressed frustration with the pace of legislative action and said he was prepared to remain in session indefinitely to see the measure through. The Louisiana Republican stated that if he were in charge, the bill would already be on the floor for a reconciliation vote.
“I am prepared to stay here as long as it takes,” Kennedy declared. “I’ve been to a squillion meetings to talk about this stuff that could’ve been an email! I’d rather have a back alley colonoscopy than go to another meeting! It’s time to vote!”
While delivered with Kennedy’s signature humor, the remarks underscored his position that the Senate needs to move past procedural discussions and take action on the legislation. Kennedy acknowledged he didn’t know when a vote would be scheduled but insisted it needed to happen soon.
Criticism of Democratic Left

Kennedy pointed to socialist leaders like New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani as examples of Democrats struggling to connect with working-class voters they claim to represent.
“I have listened carefully to members of the Graham Platner Wing of the Democrat Party,” Kennedy said, referencing Democratic figures. “In some really blue areas of the country, it may sell. In the rest of the country,” he suggested, it would not gain traction.
Legislative Standoff
The remarks come amid ongoing negotiations over the SAVE America Act in the Senate. Kennedy’s public pressure on Thune, a fellow Republican, highlights internal party tensions over legislative strategy and timing. His call for immediate action through the reconciliation process — which allows certain budget-related bills to pass with a simple majority — suggests impatience with the current approach.
Kennedy’s position that senators should remain in Washington without breaks until the measure is resolved represents a hardline stance on getting the legislation across the finish line. The senator made clear he viewed further meetings and discussions as unnecessary delays at this stage of the process.
The Louisiana senator’s comments also reflect broader Republican frustration with what they see as radical positions taken by progressive Democrats, particularly on economic and class-related issues.
